A community which is located out to the east of Colorado Springs is Powers and it is booming for good reason to . Over the years it has grown into a community with a thriving economy and scenic views of the mountains in the distance.
Sitting just north of Peterson Air Force Base, the Powers corridor includes the neighborhoods between Powers Boulevard and Mark Sheffield Road. Orginially the Powers family owned much of the land and this area originally began developing because of the high number of U.S. Air Force personnel based out at Peterson A.F. Base but now has residents spanning from young professionals to farmers.
One of the oldest bars, Frankie's Bar and Grill on North Powers Boulevard opened 19 years ago when this six lane 'highway' was a mere two lanes and you thought you were miles from anywhere, with just a sprinkling of business owners dotting the horizon. Now every popular chain, restaurant and retailer alike, has set up shop. First-time buyers, young families and couples, flock to this side of town in part, due to its close proximity to Peterson Air Force Base and Air Acadamy. Security Service Field/Sky Sox Stadium is also just round the corner for those avid baseball fans. This growth on Powers has also been instrumental in increasing the quality of healthcare facilities with the new St. Francis Medical Center, a state-of-the-art medical facility, currently under construction on Powers and scheduled to open in the summer of 2008. I remember arriving here in 2000 and getting lost as the street signs were few and far between and houses were out in the plains. However during the past five years or so, Powers has been the fastest growing area in Colorado Springs
Once gain, no shortage of golf courses - Cherokee Ridge and Springs Ranch golf courses are both public, 18-hole courses.
Typically, the homes in this area are in planned residential neighborhoods. Single family homes generally speaking have smaller lots than properties in other rural communities nearby, such as Falcon and Peyton.
