Protect Your Security Deposit
Unless you, the renter, damages the property, the security deposit is usually refunded at the end of the lease term.
Follow these helpful tips so that you can get your security deposit back.
Before you move in.
- Fill out the inspection list given to you by the PM company within the first 30 days - note any damage you see in the home.
- Take photographs.
- Include chips in the paint on a wall, mirrors or carpet stains.
- Make a copy of this list before handing it over to the property manager, as well as the photographs.
- Het a receipt for the deposit and keep a copy of your cancelled check. Most property management companies will not accept cash.
Whilst living in your new home ....
- Take care of it as if you owned it.
Moving Out of the Apartment
In order to get most if not all of your deposit back follow these guidelines ...
In the Bathroom
- Scrub bathtub/shower.
- Scrub inside and outside of toilet.
- Clean sink.
- Dust and wash the medicine cabinet and mirror.
- Look for any signs of leaking water or mold growth.
You may be required to have the carpets professional cleaned on move out - check to see if it is stated in your lease.
Clean your kitchen believing you would eat off the floor and countertops. Presentation goes a long way to getting your money back.
